ABRSM, the world-renowned music examination board, has announced a significant change in how students and teachers can access their audio recordings. This move is set to transform the way you prepare for your music exams. Here's everything you need to know about this exciting development..

The Announcement: A New Era for ABRSM Audio

On July 23, 2024, ABRSM shared a groundbreaking update: they are gradually making all their audio recordings available via major streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. This marks the end of an era for their unique audio download codes, which will be phased out by November 20, 2024.

What’s Changing?

In the past, ABRSM’s Exam Pieces books, such as the Piano, Violin, and Cello Exam Pieces with Audio editions, included a unique code for downloading performance and piano backing tracks. Starting now, these codes will no longer be provided in new books, and the audio download portal will be closed on November 20, 2024.

What This Means for You

If you currently own an ABRSM Exam Pieces book with a download code or plan to buy one soon, make sure to redeem and download your tracks before the November deadline. After this date, you won’t have access to the audio download portal or any tracks you haven’t already saved to your device.

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Download Now: Ensure you download all necessary tracks by November 20, 2024.
  • Switch to Streaming: After the portal closes, you’ll be able to access the recordings through popular streaming services, making it easier than ever to listen on the go.
  • Alternative Purchases: Selected recordings will also be available for purchase as MP3s on Amazon Music and Apple Music.

Why the Change?

ABRSM recognizes that streaming is the preferred method for many when it comes to music consumption. By transitioning to streaming services, they aim to:

  • Increase Accessibility: Make their recordings available to a broader audience, including teachers, learners, and music enthusiasts.
  • Expand Reach: Share their extensive back catalogue with the global music community.
  • Simplify Access: Eliminate the need for download codes and make it easier to access music through existing or new streaming accounts.

The Future of Music Learning

This shift reflects a broader trend in the music industry towards digital convenience and accessibility. For students and teachers at Cheza Music School, this means enhanced flexibility in accessing high-quality recordings for practice and performance preparation.
